3 Tips For Improving Paris Kids’ Attention Spans

Paris immunization schedule

Hello Ontario. CANADA parents! Today in the Paris Children’s Health Blog, we are going to look at various ways to lengthen kids’ attention spans. An increased attention span can improve learning ability as well as behavior and is an important aspect of kids health in Paris.

1. Find an activity that will hold their attention. This might mean that you need to experiment with different types of toys and crafts. One child might enjoy building blocks while another may become engrossed in an art project. There are many craft and hobby stores in the Hamilton , Brantford , and Paris area where parents can get great ideas.

2. Recorded stories are a wonderful resource for increasing attention spans. Have your child lie on the floor and close their eyes, then play a recorded story. When it’s finished, have your child retell the story to you. Local Paris libraries are perfect for finding recorded books and stories. Or you can download audio books for your iPad or other electronic reader.

3. Make sure that your child is using age-appropriate toys, crafts, and media. Age recommendations can be very helpful when deciding what activities will effectively engage your child.

Remember that it’s natural for different children to have varying attention spans, but the attention span of all kids should improve with age.

Music is Magic for Paris Kids

Paris immunization schedule

Parents in and around Paris know that healthy kids need proper nutrition, lots of exercise, and well-rounded lives. It’s also safe to say that for all children, a well-rounded life should include music in one form or another.

Studies have shown that music does so much more than simply entertain!

Did you know that children who are involved in some kind of musical training during school perform better in math and science? They also develop better coordination, do better in reading, concentrating, and goal setting. Studies show that students who are involved in a music education program also perform better on their SATs, and are more likely to attend college.

While it’s ideal for Hamilton , Brantford , and Paris parents to start their kids young, it is never too late to learn a musical instrument. Music stores in the Paris area will have great advice on age-appropriate music lessons and teachers for your curious child.

But lessons aren’t the only way! Keep an eye out in the Paris community for musical events such as church, school, and community performance programs. Check with Hamilton , Brantford , and Paris libraries, websites, and community centers for more information.

Keep up the good work, Paris parents! Your children are lucky to have you to help them stay safe, healthy, and happy!

Critical Bike Safety Rules For Paris Parents

Paris Kids Vitamins

Parents in the Paris, Brantford , and Hamilton area who want to encourage their children to be active and healthy have probably considered bike riding. This is a great option for kids, so today in the Paris Kid’s Health Blog we want to point out some basic principles of bicycle safety.

Don’t compromise on the helmet, parents!
No matter how short the excursion is, insist that your child wear a helmet each time they ride their bike. Helmets can be purchased at any bike store and at most big box stores in the N3L 3B2 area. And remember the power of example when it comes to children’s health (this means you need to wear your helmets too, mom and dad!).

Patience is important as your child develops biking skills. Don’t take off the training wheels until the child is ready and hold off on hand brakes until your child is an experienced rider. Remember that kids grow fast. Last year’s bike may now be too small.

Oversized bikes pose a safety risk. Take your child with you to your Paris or Brantford store when you purchase a bike so that you can make sure it is the proper size.

Active kids are healthy kids, and I want to do all I can to promote kids health in Paris. My name is Pat Newstead and I work from my Paris home business selling nuggets. The Lethal Machine In Your Hamilton Garage

Paris Kids Vitamins

As Paris kids get older, they often are able to help out around the house. Giving kids more responsibility is essential to their health and development, but parents should be sure to know what responsibilities their children are ready for, especially when it comes to working in the yard.

Mowing the lawn is  a weekly chore for many Paris families, and most parents are happy to turn this job over to an older child. However, parents should be absolutely sure that their child is old enough (and mature enough) to safely operate the machinery. After all, we’re talking about sharp, motorized blades whirring within arm’s length of our child’s legs and feet. Because these machines are commonplace, many parents forget how dangerous they are. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children be at least twelve years of age before using a walk-behind mower and sixteen for ride-on mowers. Of course, this doesn’t mean that every teen is capable of safely mowing the lawn, these are only general guidelines.

Anyone operating a mower should wear sturdy shoes instead of sandals. Remove objects from the lawn such as toys and small rocks before mowing, and insist that your child wear eye protection while they mow.

Regardless of who is cutting the grass at your Paris, Brantford , or Paris home, young children should not be outside playing while the mower is running.

How Does Nature Make Paris Kids Happier?

Paris kids shot schedule

Hello Paris parents! Welcome the the Paris Kid’s Health Blog. I’m sure most of you know how important it is for your kids health to spend time outdoors each and every day. But it may be even more important than you think.

Just like proper nutrition, immunizations, and vitamins, getting outside is essential for your child’s health.

One reason if for the natural light of the outdoors. This natural light keeps kids alert and healthy. Also, exposure to this light in the morning has a way of setting children’s internal clocks to promote better sleep and earlier bedtimes. (And what Hamilton parent doesn’t want earlier bedtimes?!) Another reason is that nature soothes and comforts children in safe, healthy ways. Studies have shown that children have better ability to focus with increased time outdoors. This will translate to more productive learning time as well as more tranquility in the home. Lastly, outdoor exercise is superior to indoor exercise because it promotes more physically vigorous play like jumping, running, and tumbling. These are all of the things that Brantford area parents are always telling their kids to stop doing in the living room!

Arrange your family’s schedule so that your children have time to explore the Paris outdoors, and everyone will be better for it!

3 Critical Toy Safety Rules For Paris Parents

Paris childrens vitamins

Between holidays and birthdays, there are plenty of opportunities for gift giving in the Paris area, so parents are often on the lookout for toys to give at the next big event. Toys can promote children’s health by stimulating the mind, encouraging imagination, or by getting kids moving around and exercising. But whatever toy you choose, make sure it is safe.

Next time you are browsing the toy aisle of your favorite Paris, Brantford , or Hamilton department store, here are a few safety tips to keep in mind.

1. Be sure that you purchase toys that suit the child’s age and abilities. Buying a toy that is meant for older children is a possible safety hazard and should always be avoided.

2. Once you’ve chosen an age-appropriate toy, read all of the enclosed instructions before allowing your kids to play with it.

3. This can be difficult when you have children of differing ages, but you should always make sure that older kids play with toys containing small parts away from younger children, and never allow them to leave the game pieces unattended.

And, speaking of gifts, remember that ribbons and strings should be taken away immediately after a gift or toy is unwrapped.

Old-School Snacks For Paris Kids

Less Meat, More Plants For Healthier Paris Kids

What does it take to make a healthy snack? The aisles at every Paris, Brantford , and Hamilton grocery store are lined with packages that claim to be healthy and to contain the newest, most exciting vitamin or mineral. But is that really what makes a snack healthy?

Chances are that the answer is no. A lot of the foods that make healthy snacks are not the ones that you find packaged in the middle of the supermarket. Rather, they are what we would consider plain old food.

Plain old food has the advantage of being unprocessed and free of chemicals and preservatives. So, let’s take a look at these seemingly boring snack ingredients.

Cheese is a real protein powerhouse for your kids, so a little goes a long way. For a fun twist, try using cookie cutters to make shapes that your kids will love to gobble up!

Peanut butter and childhood go together like, well, peanut butter and jelly. Ants on a log, peanut butter spread on celery with raisins is always a fun treat. If your child has peanut allergies, you can always substitute almond butter in most recipes.

Low-fat yogurt is probably a favorite of your child’s already, but this versatile source of calcium has plenty of tricks up its sleeves. Try adding berries, or something crunchy like granola or whole-grain cereal. And, in the hot summer months, a yogurt pop can really hit the spot.

The humble egg isn’t just for breakfast anymore. Hard-boiled eggs kept in the fridge might be one of the most convenient ways to enjoy this high-protein snack.

As you can see, the secret to children’s nutrition might just be that there is no secret at all. Find real food, make it into a snack, and ignore the claims made by processed, pre-packaged food.

Energy Drinks Pose Health Risks For Brantford Kids

Energy Drinks Pose Health Risks For Brantford Kids

Hello Brantford ! Welcome to my children’s health blog. I am a concerned parent and advocate for improved children’s health in the Brantford area.

Today’s topic is energy drinks. Many Brantford teens are under the false impression that energy drinks like Rock Star and Red Bull are similar to sports drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade.

Energy drinks are completely different from electrolyte replacement drinks and we need to help our children understand the health risks they pose. Energy drinks contain dangerous chemicals that can harm kid’s growing bodies, especially their teeth.

Energy drinks contain citric acid, fruit juices and extracts, sugar, and a dangerous chemical that gives them their bright color. They can damage tooth enamel with prolonged use.

It is important for us Brantford parents to model healthy behavior for our children. If your kids see you guzzle energy drinks, you may want to think about the example you are setting.

I sell child-friendly nutritional products that are enjoyed by healthy Brantford families. To order healthy energy-boosters, visit mxi.myvoffice.com/patnewstead.

3 Easy Ways For Paris Kids to Get More Antioxidants

Paris kids shot schedule

Because antioxidants are associated with cell damage and cell death, parents in the Paris, Brantford , and Hamilton area often mistakenly assume that antioxidants are only important for adults and the elderly, those with more visible cell death and damage. But that simply isn’t the case. Everyone needs antioxidants for their health, even kids.

Antioxidants work their magic by protecting cells from free radicals. Free radicals are a by-product of the normal metabolic processes that take place in everyone’s bodies (even kids!) all the time. Free radicals may also occur from pollutants, such as cigarette smoke, or when the body breaks down certain medicines.

Free radicals damage cells through oxidation. You might remember from chemistry class that this is the same process that causes an apple slice to turn brown. During oxidation in the cells, DNA can be damaged and changed, which can create the beginnings of disease. A chain reaction of damage can also occur with one damaged molecule becomes a free radical itself and then damages another, and so on.

Now that you know their importance, here are 3 great ways to get more antioxidants into your kids’ diets.

1. Get more veggies on their plates at dinner time and in their lunch boxes

2. Make fruit the snack of choice for your family

3. When buying processed snacks, choose those fortified with antioxidants.

Healthy Skin for Paris Kids

Healthy Skin for Paris Kids

Hi! Welcome to my Paris children’s health blog. Today’s topic is ‘Healthy Skin for Paris Children.’

The skin is the body’s largest organ, and it’s easy to take for granted all that our skin does for us. It is our first defense against germs, it regulates body temperature, it gives us the sense of touch, and so much more. This organ is always hard at work and parents in the Paris area need to be sure it’s working well for their children.

A common skin problem in our Ontario. CANADA climate is simple irritation. Irritated skin is more likely to crack, which can increase the risk for infection. If your child’s skin is irritated, look around at some of the products in your home that may be causing it. Soaps, detergents, dryer sheets, and other household cleaners all have chemicals and fragrances that can be irritating. Paris parents can try switching brands or reducing use of these products.

Basic skin care for children should include moisturizing after bathing, using fragrance-free products, and practicing good sun protection. If dry skin is an issue for your child, pick up a humidifier at any Hamilton , Brantford , or Paris drugstore and allow it to run in your child’s room while they sleep.

If simple skin irritation can’t be controlled, or if your child develops other skin issues, make sure to take them to your Paris pediatrician.
